Why years, months and days beat "age in days" alone
Total days is the precise number, but nobody thinks in it. The years-months-days form follows the real calendar: count whole years first, then whole months, then whatever days remain. Because months are unequal, the days part can shift by a day around month boundaries while the total keeps climbing steadily by one. Both numbers are shown above, they answer different questions, and the one legal or medical forms usually want is the calendar form.

How is my exact age calculated?
The calculator counts full calendar years first, then full calendar months, then the remaining days, the same way you'd work it out by hand from a calendar. Because real months have different lengths, this is more accurate than multiplying by averages: someone born on 15 June is exactly N years, 1 month and 4 days old on 19 July, regardless of how many days those months contained.
I was born on 29 February. When is my next birthday?
In leap years, on 29 February as normal. In other years there is no 29 February, so this calculator uses 1 March as the birthday, the first day after 28 February. Some countries and some people use 28 February instead; both conventions are common, and your legal birthday can depend on where you live.
Why does the "months" part of my age not equal a fixed number of days?
Because calendar months are genuinely unequal: 28 to 31 days. An age in years, months and days follows the actual calendar rather than pretending every month has 30 days, which is why the days part can shift by a day or two around month boundaries even though the total-days count grows steadily by one each day.
Is the total-days figure exact?
Yes. It is counted from actual calendar dates, so every leap year in between is included correctly. The hours figure is total days multiplied by 24, a calendar-day count rather than a stopwatch, since your birth certificate has a date but rarely a reliable time.

The February 29 problem, honestly handled
Around one person in 1,461 has a birthday that exists only every fourth year. For them this calculator uses 29 February in leap years and 1 March otherwise, one of the two common conventions (the other is 28 February), and the choice genuinely varies by country for legal purposes like drinking age and licenses. If that is you, you already know the argument better than any calculator does.
What the weekday of your birth is good for
Mostly settling family disputes, honestly. But it is also a nice check on the math: the weekday cycles in a fixed, verifiable pattern, so a calculator that gets your birth weekday right has necessarily counted every day between then and now correctly, leap years included. Consider it the visible proof that the day counts above it are exact.
